TitleSheffield LibraryDescriptionThe original Sheffield library was located on the 'Library Reserve' on the Waddington side of the Sheffield School. In 1875 this building was shifted to the yard of Mr. F. A. Bull in Waddington, where it remained until it was demolished.
The funds from the assets of the old library (40 pounds) were held in trust by the Malvern County Council. This was able to be used in 1932 for a new Sheffield Library, housed in the Waddington School. The then headmaster, Mr. Chambers, acted as the librarian. It was open twice a week and the subscriptions were 7/6 annually. The library flourished for four years then lapsed for two, before being relocated to the A&P rooms in Sheffield in 1938.
With the additions to Sheffield Hall in 1967, provision was made for a library room to be incorporated into the building. Lockable cupboards were built to house the books and the library was opened for one hour a week. It was still operating on a Friday evening in 1986 thanks to a group of local volunteers.
Sheffield was then serviced by Selwyn Libraries' mobile library bus until January 2019, when a mobile van (called the Edge Connector Vehicle or ECV) was established.Source'Malvern Libraries 1875-1986' (1986 leaflet by Mrs. J. H. Richards)
