TitleWaikewai house at SouthbridgeDescriptionView of "Waikewai" homestead in Canterbury with tennis court in foreground. Home owned by Alfred James Inwood (1877 - 1939) who lived there with his wife Martha (nee Inwood) (1881-1922).
Once the original swamp on the site was drained, the house was built in the 1860s, by Alfred's father, from timber ferried across Te Waihora Lake Ellesmere from Little River.
From 1917 to 1939, Alfred measured local rainfall, and supplied this information regularly to the Ellesmere Guardian.Date22 April 1925SourceR. P. Moore Collection, Alexander Turnbull Library Pan-0119-FPhotographerRobert Percy Moore
