TitleAnderson Square, LeestonDescriptionAnderson Square, Leeston, was formerly known as Memorial Square and before that, Market Square. It was re-named after Albert (Bert) Anderson, Ellesmere County Chairman from 1941 - 1959. To the right of the image is the Millennium Water Feature, commemorating the work of pioneer Ellesmere artesian well-sinker Job Osborne (1842 - 1931).
At a 1920 meeting of the Leeston Beautifying Association and the Town Improvement Society, Mr A. Green, secretary of the Association, expressed a wish for the new area to be 'a nicely-kept park with shady ornamental and weeping trees growing in clusters so that tired mothers and nurse girls could take the children there for recreation and health'.Date2024PhotographerSarah Davy
