Captain Robin Tudor Barlow
Description
TitleCaptain Robin Tudor BarlowSummaryA soldier in World War One. DescriptionCaptain Robin Tudor Barlow was born in Shimla, India in 1890, the elder son of Mr and the late Mrs Hubert Harlow, then of Delhi and afterwards of Bombav. He was in New Zealand when war was declared, and volunteered for service. He was enrolled in the 13th (Canterbury) Infantry Battalion, and sailed for Egypt in October, 1914, with the first New Zealand Expeditionary Force. On 8 May 1915, Captain Barlow was severely wounded in Gallipoli in an attack on the Turkish position at Sedd-el-Bahr, and was discharged from the N.Z.E.F. as unfit for infantry service, on account of his wound.
Captain Barlow then applied for a commission in the R.F.C., and then went to Franco in September, 1916. He first served as an observer, and later a pilot during the whole period of the battle of the Somme. Again wounded, he was posted to the instructional staff at Winchester, until recalled to the front, where he served as flight commander both in the retreat in March and April, and in the early stage of the Allied forward movement, when he met his death in July 1918.First NameBarlowLast NameRobin TudorFamilySon of Robert and Gertrude May BarlowDate of Birth5 August 1890Date of Death30 July 1918Place of DeathFranceCause of DeathKilled in actionAge at Death28
