DescriptionWhen Te Ara Ātea was opened in December 2021, the six exhibition cases around the perimeter of level one were themed as: Kā wāhine whakamīro: Wonderful Selwyn wāhine (women of the district), Kai, wai me te weu: Food, water and fibre (agriculture), Kā kōhatu o Waikirikiri Selwyn rocks (geology), Mai kā ara ki te rerewhenua: Trails to Roads and Rail (journeys and transport), Te hakahaka o Rolleston: Making Rolleston, and Tō mātou tuku ihotaka ope taua: Our military heritage.
Together they told many stories illustrating the breadth and depth of history in the Selwyn district.
