TitleCountry Church KirweeDescriptionA 1956 painting of the Presbyterian Church at Kirwee by Christchurch artist Bill Sutton (1917 - 2000), held in the collection of the Dowse Art Museum. Included in the 2015 Bill Sutton retrospective at Christchurch Art Gallery.
The Presbyterian church at Kirwee was built in 1908, the third church in the township, after the Anglican and Baptist churches.
The church was constructed of timber. The interior is tongue and groove. Crosses on the gables are a Presbyterian symbol of the burning bush. The Star of David window is on the west wall.
Its early records have been lost, and the architect and builder are not known (Frizzell, 2001 p.51 and Reid, 2008, p.8).Date1956
