Weedons
Description
NameWeedons
Alternative NameWeedens
DescriptionWeedons is a settlement near Templeton named after postmaster and publican William Weeden, who ran the hotel known as 'Half-Way House' on the Great South Road in the early 1860s. It was known officially as Weedons from 1880: it is thought to be because of a spelling error by the railway station signwriter.
In 1943 the RNZAF opened an air station on Jones Road at Weedons, which became a storage facility for the RNZAF Museum in the 1980s.
