The Milky Way Te Ikaroa, the galaxy that includes our solar system, is the subject of this artwork by Christchurch-based artist Hannah Beehre, specially-commissioned for Te Ara Ātea. Made up of somewhere between 100 and 400 billion stars, this iconic and awe-inspiring image has been rendered in dyed and painted velvet and includes approximately 10,000 Swarovski crystals, where each of these crystals represents a star, which in turn represents at least 10 million distant stars.Date23.09.22
