DescriptionMiss Lottie Barker, a young lady who has displayed much promise in her profession, last week entered St. Dominic's College, Dunedin, for extended musical studies (piano and harp). As a pupil of the Sisters of the Missions in this city Miss Barker attained the final in connection with the Royal College of Music examination, together with success in advanced harmony and Associate of Trinity College, London, at the age of fifteen. As a solo harpist with the Exhibition orchestra Miss Barker was conspicuously successful, and later toured the Colony with the orchestral, sharing with others flattering press notices and well deserved compliment's of eminent musicians. Whilst at Auckland she received, with the other members, the pretty souvenir of their connection with the Exhibition. At the Musical Union's concert last week Miss Barker was harpist, and her performance was highly spoken of by Mr. Bradshaw, Anglican Cathedral organist.
The highest percentage of marks (160) gained in New Zealand for the Licentiate Teachers' examination of the Associated Board of Music for last year was recorded in favour of Miss Lottie Barker, of St. Dominic's College, Dunedin.
Mr. Hugo Gorlitz arrived in Wellington yesterday from the South on his way to Auckland, where the the rehearsals of the New Zealand contingent of the British Empire Musical Festival Orchestra, in connection with the visit of the Sheffield Choir, will commence on Monday.
