DescriptionAfter finishing school at Timaru Girls High and training as a teacher at Christchurch Teachers College, Lynette took up teaching positions at primary schools in Halswell, Temuka, and West Melton.
Lynette married Athol Hulston in 1971 and inherited a family of four. Having had a rural upbringing herself, Lynette was accustomed to the farming life that greeting her in West Melton. She and Athol built their home on the Newtons Road farm property, and in the early years of their marriage, Lynette was a relief teacher at various primary schools in the area.
Lynette was an active participant of the West Melton community. She was involved with committees like Plunket, the West Melton School P.T.A,. the Lincoln High School P.T.A., and the West Melton Men’s Hockey Club. After being ordained into the Presbyterian Church in 1992, she held several positions such as organist and treasurer; and was later involved the establishment of the community “Rugrats” group at the church in 1996. That group is still active today, now known as Mainly Music and run by Hope Presbyterian.
Lynette’s husband Athol passed away in 2003, and Lynette now lives in Christchurch.
