TitleWhitecliffs HotelDescriptionTwo women and a man stand outside the Whitecliffs Hotel which has some laundry hanging from an upstairs window. The building burned down in December 1916, after it became a private residence to Mr. J. T. Leeming.
One of the first publicans appears to be L. J. Williams in 1876, followed by Fred Beechey in 1877. Patrick King took over the lease in 1879 (and again in 1884), and James Short in 1882. James McLaughlin was the proprietor in 1892. He transferred the lease to John Nicolle in 1893.
From 1882-1894 a hotel at Governor's Bay was also named Whitecliffs.SourceSelwyn Heritage CollectionGeolocation[1]
