Dunsandel Methodist Church
Description
NameDunsandel Methodist Church
DescriptionRegular Methodist services were held in local homes from 1882.
In 1885 Dunsandel was established as a society, first with Mr. Lill and then G. Sheat as Society Steward.
The Dunsandel Methodist Church was opened on April 4 1912. In 1952 M. R. Barnett became a fully accredited Local Preacher. In 1964 extensive repairs were carried out.
Discussions began about denominations combining to build one set of buildings. The property adjoining the Presbyterian Church was bought.
On 19 September 1970 the last service in the Methodist church took place, and the congregation joined with the Presbyterian church.
From this date the Methodist and the Presbyterian congregations alternated their own traditional services with organist Basil Watson playing for Presbyterian services and Mavis Barnett playing for Methodist services. They shared duties until Basil retired and then Mavis became the Combined Church Organist in the old Presbyterian church for the Combined Congregation.
The Methodist church building became the Old Church Craft and Gift Gallery, with proceeds to go to a Combined Churches Building Fund. Named Trinity Church, this combined church was opened in October 1983, due to the funds raised through a huge amount of catering for farm visit lunches and other social functions.
Eventually in March 1986 the building was sold to the Dunsandel Historic Society.
The old Presbyterian Church was demolished and a new hall opened in 1993.
In March 2004, the Anglicans also joined Trinity Church.
