TitleGlentunnel LibraryDescriptionThe first library provision in Glentunnel was the construction of a bookcase at the southern end of the school porch in 1883.
The Glentunnel Library was built by Mr. Lamport in 1886 or 1887, after a section was gifted to the citizens of Glentunnel by Mr. John Deans. The gate posts were built by William and James Tarling (father and uncle of author Mona Anderson).
On 7 December 1891 the title of the section (14.5 perches) under the Land Transfer Act was signed over the trustees of the Glentunnel Public Library. It was run by a committee of local people who raised funds for books through events such as concerts and balls.
On 29th July 1983 the Glentunnel Library and its gateposts were listed with the Historic Places Trust (now Heritage New Zealand). Source'Malvern Libraries 1875-1986' (1986 leaflet by Mrs. J. H. Richards)
