Other Biographical InformationSarah was born sometime around 1845, a date estimated from her age at death. She married Thomas about 1878 for their first child Thomas was born then. (The marriage record has not yet been located so her maiden name is unknown.) There are no birth records for the first three children children of Sarah and Thomas registered in New Zealand so it is likely the family arrived together. Thomas and family settled in Annat around 1882 when he appears on the Electoral Roll. In 1884 he bought section 14 at Annat from Arthur and a year later asked the Roads Board to improve the road to his section. He was on the School committe in 1891 and daughter Sarah Ann wom School prizes in 1891 and 1893.
They also attended the Primitive methodist Church in Annat. Sarah Halliday signed the 1892 Suffrage Petition on page no 451/257and also the 893 Suffrage Petition on page 186. She was on the 1893 Electoral Roll as number 1118. In 1915 Sarah took an unusual step and went to court to ask for maintenance from Thomas Halliday, on the strength of the indifferent treatment she was receiving, and an order was made against him for 17/6 a week. They do not appear to have separated. When Sarah died ten years later she was described as the "dearly beloved wife of Thomas Halliday; aged 80 years". She was buried in the Methodist section of the Kowai Bush Cemetery, Springfield. In her will she left all her property to their youngest daughter Sarah Ann, who had been living with them and caring for her. Thomas lived on, looked after their daughter Sarah Ann until he died in 1932. He was buried with Sarah in Kowai Pass Cemetery, Springfield. Sarah Ann was one of the executors and he left land and also his shares in companies and from mortgages to her. However the money from the sale of Russells Flat land to his sons Thomas Halliday, Joseph Anderson Halliday and Robert John Halliday. Sarah Ann remained in Annat and died in 1946 joining her parents in Kowai Pass Cemetery.
