Other Biographical InformationMary Annie Moore was born in 1866, daughter of John Moore and Hannah nee Watson. Her parents had farmed at Annat from the 1870s. On 4 December 1889, at Riverview Farm, she married James Barr Thomson, of Ayreshire, son of Robert Thomson and Helen White. Mary Ann signed the 1892 Suffrage petition on page 451/257 and then the 1893 Suffrage petition on page 2. She enrolled to vote on the 1893 Electoral Roll at number 2750. Sadly, she died just four years later aged only 31 in Riccarton, Christchurch. Her body was returned to her father's farm "Rockdale" at Annat and from there her funeral cortege left for her internment in the Kowai Pass Cemetery, Springfield. She was buried beside her maternal grandfather, William Watson who had died on 4 October1889 just before she was married and had left her a quarter share of his estate. Her widower James left New Zealand and in October the following year married in South Africa a widow Mrs Jeanie McFarlane nee Logan.
