DescriptionRolleston Prison opened in 1958 and houses lower-security male prisoners. Run by Ara Poutama Aotearoa Department of Corrections, it is located in Runners Road, Rolleston.
In the early 1970s the prison had a tailoring workshop to support men learning to sew: the tutor was Mr. C. Elton.
The Rolleston Construction Yard was introduced to the prison in 2013 and rebuilds damaged residential buildings in partnership with Housing New Zealand Corporation. This enables prisoners to learn a range of trades, such as building, plastering and painting.
