DescriptionBefore Phar Lap there were Ballymena, and his half-brother Limerick, who were owned by H. A. Knight of Racecourse Hill, and trained by noted New Zealand racehorse trainer Mr. F. D. Jones at Riccarton.
Ballymena won the Australian Derby in 1923, and died in Australia in 1924 after breaking its leg in a race at Randwick, Sydney.
