Other Biographical InformationThere is very little information about Ellen Gallagher. Her probable death record lists her age at 85 meaning that she was born around 1820 and had been in New Zealand for 24 years, meaning that she was aroun 6o years old when she undertook the voyage to New Zealand. She was living in Russells Flat aged 73 when she signed the 1892 Suffrage Petition on page 448/254 and again in 1893 when she signed the 1893 Petition on page 187. She was enrolled to vote in 1893 Main Roll no 938, occupation Domestic Duties. In 1894 she was still in Russells Flat but by 1896 she was in the Jubilee Home Woolston. (The building was designed by S. Hurst Seager whose motto was "Comfort with Economy". It opened in 1888 and was designed for the reception and maintenance of aged poor persons. It was also to be a memorial for the Golden Jubilee of Queen Victoria in 1887). She died there of Senile Decay on 14 September 1905 aged 85 and was interred in Linwood Cemetery a day later.
