Other Biographical InformationMary was born about 1834 in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, daughter of John Edwards and Barbara Morgan. Her father was recorded in the 1841 Census as a Hawker. She came to New Zealand with her brother Robert and sister Barbara on board the Queen of the Mersey, arriving on October 20th, 1862, and settling in Christchurch. In 1863, aged 29, Mary married Henry Williamson, her brother Robert's partner in the Store, Blacksmith and Carrier business at Kowai Pass as it was then known. Henry became sole propriator in 1871. Mary and Henry do not appear to have had any children. Mary signed the 1892 Suffrage Petition as Mary Williamson, Springfield no 447/254. She signed the 1893 petion on page 185, also as Mary Williamson, Springfield. Mary was enrolled to vote on the Main Roll as number 3016. She was aged 60. Henry was involved in the community and was a member of the Malvern Masonic Lodge but there are no records of Mary's community involvement. Her husband Henry died July 1st 1900 in Christchurch and is buried in Kowai Pass Cemetery. Four years later, in August 1905, Mary died in Christchurch and was buried beside Henry.
