George, Matilda and the older children including Susan arrived before 1872 when he was registered to vote at Kowai Pass, as Springfield was known at the time. In 1887, Susan married Richard Kobelt, an English man from Surrey, ten years her senior. In 1886 he had been engaged as Clerk to the Malvern Roads Board.
