Other Biographical InformationElizabeth Hannah Gethin was baptised on 11 June 1848 at Heage, Derbyshire, daughter of Richard Gethin and Jane nee Atkin. The family lived at Buckland Hollow, a local large estate, where her father was groom to Mr David Wheatcroft. In 1861 She was one of four children with two sisters and a brother, her mother having died before 1861. She emigrated to New Zealand at age 19 on board the ship Himalaya, leaving London on November 2nd 1866 to Lyttelton arriving February 10 1867. Elizabeth was listed among the Single Women, and was an Assisted Immigrant costing the Provincial Government 14 Pounds. She is listed as being a domestic servant from Derbyshire. She probably worked as a domestic servant until 10 June 1873, aged 25, when she married John Fraser, a Scotsman from Moray. They settled in Springfield where John was a Blacksmith. Elizabeth Hannah signed the 1892 Petition page 447/254 as Elizabeth Fraser and went on to sign the 1893 Petition (page 185) as Elizabeth Hannah Fraser, Springfield. She was enrolled to vote in 1893 as number 920 as Elizabeth Hannah Fraser, Springfield, nurse, residential. She was aged about 45. John died January 10 1917 and was buried in Kowai Pass Cemetery. After 21 years as a widow Elizabeth died April 1 1938 and is buried beside him.
