Sat. March 29
R.S.M. Sutherland reverted to the ranks this morning. Walsh court martialled this afternoon, sentence not known. Firing exercises this afternoon, some good shooting done.
Sun. 30
Alarm sounded to stand by the rafts at 12.45 all hands turned out smartly. D Squadron mess room placed first again today for tidiness. Not very well tonight touch of fever.
Mon. 31
In hospital today a touch of Malarial fever temperature 104.1 A rather queer hospital as the patients are fed like fighting cocks. Young Hann in here through getting a knock with something a bit harder than his head.
Tues. April 1
Still in hospital, A bit better today temperature 99.6 Some great fun aboard this morning, one man sent a Corporal to the adjutant with a note saying please send the fool further on. Manual & firing exercises every morning and afternoon from this date.
Wed. 2
Not out of hospital yet, expect to get out tomorrow. Met a man in here who used to work for Beecham [?] Kowai Bush. Have to get my leg lanced tomorrow owing to a kick I got on Sunday. G. Easton not very well.
Thurs. 3
Birthday Q.S.M. Booth. A Squadron. Got my leg lanced this morning, doctor would not let me out at first but when the sick parade had been examined I had to go to make room for others. My horse a bit cronk tonight. I hope he does not pass out.
Fri. 4
Reveille 5.45 this morning Coffee & Biscuits (before stables) for the men on account of the bad smell among the horses between decks. My horse a little better tonight. Easton & Hughes admitted to hospital.
