Two Raw Sisters
All eaters welcome!
‘All eaters welcome!’ is the slogan of Two Raw Sisters, Margo (left) and Rosa Flanagan’s booming cooking workshop, app and book business. The sisters grew up near Rolleston on a lifestyle block where meals usually included produce fresh from the veggie patch. Illnesses led the sisters to look at what they were eating – and from there they found improved health, their passion, and a business. Two Raw Sisters’ recipes and cooking styles emphasise turning fresh, seasonal ingredients into healthy, delicious meals. The meals can be prepped quickly and adapted to use what’s in the fridge and pantry – essential these days for people leading busy lives. Margo and Rosa use their energy, humour and experience to encourage all eaters to make plants and whole, unprocessed ingredients the starting point of every meal.
Culinary inspiration
In 2017, the sisters attended Plant Lab culinary school in Los Angeles. Inspired by their new appreciation for raw, unprocessed foods, they organised their first workshop before they had even returned to New Zealand. It was run from the kitchen of their parents’ Rolleston home.
Workshopping
Rosa and Margo continued to run workshops out of their parents’ home until October 2019 when they opened their test kitchen and workshop space in central Christchurch.
Paddock to plate
Rosa and Margo’s parents grew up on farms and had a paddock-to-plate mentality. Two Raw Sisters are carrying that on, encouraging people to cook sustainably by using what is in season or in the cupboard. Just how things were at home growing up! The sisters helped out in the family veggie patch as children. After their course at Plant Lab, they returned to their parents’ garden to grow their own fresh produce.
