Lincoln and Districts Historical Society
Description
NameLincoln and Districts Historical SocietyDescriptionLincoln and Districts Historical Society (LDHS) is actively involved in supporting our community’s heritage and culture. Our group looks after two heritage buildings, Liffey Cottage and Pioneer Hall, and we regularly welcome visitors and volunteers. We manage a growing collection of historical photographs, archives, records and local history publications. Contributions are welcome to our biannual LDHS Newsletter featuring articles of local historical interest and upcoming events.
To support youth and heritage, we sponsor the annual Lincoln High School History Prize for Year 13. One of the highlights of being involved with LDHS are the visits to places of historical interest, where we gain an insight into their heritage and current use.
In the past, our members helped to restore and refurnish historical buildings in the Lincoln community. Liffey Cottage (1875) has been transformed into a 19th century working family’s home. Pioneer Hall (1874) was built as Lincoln’s first library and was originally located on James Street, opposite the School grounds. We use Pioneer Hall to display historical photographs.
Both buildings are open on the first Sunday of the month from 2pm-4pm, or by request. Visiting groups are welcome and both buildings are also destinations for Children’s University participants.
If you are interested in the history of our district we would really like you to join us! For further information email sec.ldsh@gmail.com, or check our Facebook page.
