Description
NameCommunity EventsDescriptionEvents unite us as a community and we’ve hosted plenty over the years. In this collection, you will find images of vintage vehicle parades, tyre changing events and beard growing competitions! There are also much-anticipated annual events, like the Hororata Highland Games which help raise funds for the local community. There are also game-changer events like the opening in 1923 of the 8.5-km Otira tunnel, which completed the railway between Christchurch and Greymouth. At the time, it was the longest tunnel outside the Alps and the seventh-longest in the world. More recently we have celebrated the opening of our new culture centre, Te Ara Ātea, and the surrounding shopping district in Rolleston.
